On September 10, 2013 the Board of County Commissioner approved the Collier County Beach Renourishment Project for contractors to perform the upcoming beach renourishment work. The contract includes Vanderbilt and Pelican Bay beaches and Park Shore and Naples Portion of this project. Stewart Mining in Immokalee will provide sand for this project which is currently being stockpiled.
Beach Life
After months of controversy, a popular Naples waterway is finally being dredged. Big storms — mostly from last year — filled Doctors Pass with sand, making water so shallow it’s dangerous for boaters. “It was actually inoperable is what it amounts to. It was a safety hazard as well as an inconvenience,” said Jerry Watkins, a Naples boater and resident.
On September 10, 2013 the Board of County Commissioner (BCC) approved the Collier County Beach Renourishment Project for staff recommendation of two (2) truck haul/placement contractors to perform the upcoming beach renourishment work (BCC Executive Summary).
Bathtub Beach is back in business, although beachgoers may notice things look different from what they did before it closed.
To ensure the safety of MacArthur Boulevard, Martin County has restored a protective dune at Bathtub Beach and will continue to assess approaching storms to determine if and when additional work is required.
