Stewart Materials has successfully supplied approximately 50,000 tons of custom beach sand to the Town of Longboat Key for the final phase of a beach renourishment project. During the first phase of the project, SMI supplied 307,000 tons of custom materials. Stewart Materials Founder Nick Stewart commented, “With every successful project, the SMI team proves inland sourced custom beach sand is an economically efficient, environmentally and functionally superior alternative to traditional, available offshore sources.”

Key to SMI’s success in supplying materials to beaches on Florida’s east and west coasts is its process-controlled method, which allows SMI to consistently meet material specifications for color and grain size. This process-controlled method was noted during the project’s first phase by Longboat Key Town Manager Dave Bullock, who stated, “The sand SMI supplied meets our specification fully. It looks and feels great.”
