March 1, 2015
March 2, 2015, Jupiter, Florida, U.S.A., Stewart Materials, Inc. (SMI) today announced its name change from Stewart Mining Industries to Stewart Materials. The name change comes as part of the first significant rebrand in the company’s more than 30-year history. In addition to changing the company name to accurately reflect its identity and function, the rebrand encompasses a new mission statement, logo, tagline, website and corporate collateral. The tagline: Responsibly Enhancing Florida Life. presents succinctly the company’s inland sourced materials’ impact on Florida’s nearly $70 billion annual tourism industry.
Stewart Materials’ mission crafting exercise resulted in the four-point statement:
- Research, develop and safely recover Florida’s natural resources.
- Reliably supply Florida-sourced, process-controlled material products.
- Responsibly, sustain and enhance Florida’s environment, industries and infrastructure.
- Leave a better Florida for future generations.
Stewart Materials’ inland sourced materials renourish Florida beaches and golf courses, supply aggregate for roadway and other construction, and are used in projects as diverse as athletic fields, state and federal parks, wildlife habitats and the Herbert Hoover Dike. Founder Nick Stewart comments, “When people think about walking the beach, blasting a golf shot from a bunker or driving an interstate or roadway, aggregate materials don’t come to mind. All these things are made possible, in part, because of aggregate material processing.”
Begun as a small sand and fill company in 1982, Stewart Materials has evolved to become one of the largest suppliers of inland sourced, process-controlled materials in the state of Florida. The company has taken a leadership role as a supplier of specialized custom materials for large-scale beach renourishment projects. In Collier County alone, over the last two years, Stewart Materials has supplied nearly 330,000 tons of custom materials sand for placement on Vanderbilt, Pelican Bay, Park Shore and Lowdermilk Park beaches.
Stewart Materials was an unsung beach renourishment leader in the weeks and months following 2012’s Superstorm Hurricane Sandy, supplying sand and meeting needs in Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie Counties. Nowhere was Stewart Materials more visible than in Martin County, where it supplied nearly 11,000 tons of emergency sand to protect MacArthur Boulevard, restoring a vital protective dune at Bathtub Beach. Currently, the company is in the midst of large-scale beach renourishment projects in Palm Beach and Collier Counties.
Founder and Chief Executive Officer Nick Stewart is a fifth generation Floridian and a zealous guardian of Florida’s natural resources. Conducted responsibly, aggregate materials processing enhances the natural environment and underpins the infrastructure of the state. The intentional environmental lifecycle combined with responsible, green aggregate processing practices allow Stewart Materials to leave a better Florida for future generations.
